Dan Duffy family

I want to take a minute of your time to introduce myself. My name is Dan Duffy and I am a Republican running for the 26th District of the Illinois Senate.

I grew up on the south side of Chicago, the youngest of eleven children. I went to school at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and moved to the northwest suburbs after graduation. It was here that I started a computer consulting company out of my apartment with my business partner and grew it into a bustling company now providing jobs to over 35 employees.

Through my experience as a small business owner I learned about issues such as spiraling health care costs, the struggle to find highly skilled technical workers, and the burden of being hit at every turn with another business tax. I reached out to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to find out how I could do more to fix these problems. Shortly thereafter I started serving on the Illinois NFIB Leadership Council and took on the role as Chairman of the Lake and Cook County Area Action Council for independent businesses.

Portrait of Dan DuffyIt was through this involvement with public policy issues - such as the Governor’s Gross Receipt Tax Plan and the Payroll Tax plan - that I decided to run for the Senate. Illinois has slipped to 45 out of 50 in job growth since this Governor has been in office. Due to the Gross Receipts Tax plan and other tax schemes, employers in our district are looking to Wisconsin and other borders states to relocate their business. The focus in state government should be to encourage high paying job growth in our district, NOT discourage it!

Our Governor believes the state can continue to sell off our assets to pay the minimum payment on the debt that has been accumulated; meanwhile spending more and more of our children and grandchildren’s money. This simply cannot continue and I vow to make putting our fiscal house in order my number one priority.

I’m looking for hardworking, dedicated volunteers who believe as I do in governing for the next generation not the next election. If you’re interested in being a part of the Duffy team that will bring common sense solutions to Springfield, please give me a call at 847-381-8082. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

26th District (north, northwest suburbs): Round Lake Mayor Bill Gentes, a Democrat, and Republican Dan Duffy of Lake Barrington, a computer consultant, are competing for retiring GOP Sen. Bill Peterson’s seat. Duffy is a smart, solid guy who has excellent real-world experience. He is troubled by the state’s anti-business climate and wants to hold the line on taxes. Gentes has …given voters a reason not to trust him. He said he was on a leave of absence from his job—but later admitted he had been fired. Duffy is endorsed. (Excerpted)

Chicago Sun Time

The Chicago Sun-Times Endorses Dan Duffy for State Senate District 26

- October 28, 2008

We like the fresh ideas and energy of Republican Dan Duffy for this far northwest suburban district. The 42-year-old Lake Barrington resident started a computer consulting business and would bring to Springfield first-hand knowledge about how health care costs and taxes affect the business climate in Illinois. As a Republican, he could help tilt the scales from the Democrats, who seem incapable of using their majority power for good. (Excerpted)

- October 24, 2008

We are endorsing Duffy. A 42-year-old Lake Barrington resident, Duffy states that his goal if elected is to reduce spending and taxes. Duffy said another of his top priorities if elected will be to change the anti-business climate in Illinois. Duffy also favors ethics reform and more transparency in government. Duffy is knowledgeable about statewide issues and would be a fine state senator for the 26th District. (Excerpted)

- October 21, 2008

Dan Duffy earns our support for his advocacy of Illinois businesses and for his grasp of issues facing our state. His ideas for handling finances - a Web site where you could view every check written by state government? - add a refreshing voice to widespread calls for reform. (Excerpted)

DAN DUFFY FOR 26TH DIST. STATE SENATE
- Oct. 9, 2008

As a small business owner, Dan Duffy found out how hard it was to struggle with the costs of taxes and health
care. One of the biggest issues Duffy wants to take on is corruption throughout the state government. Duffy has been successful throughout his business career. He has taken on more responsibility and leadership roles with groups like the Illinois Leadership Council for the National Federation of Independent Business and the Lake and Cook County Area Action Council for Independent Businesses. He continues to fight to resolve the issues facing small businesses and citizens throughout the area. This style would serve the residents of the 26th District well. We endorse Dan Duffy for the 26th District of the Illinois Senate. (Excerpted)

Lake County News Sun

Lake County News-Sun Endorses Duffy for State Senate

“…Even U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin has called the gridlock among his fellow Democrats in Springfield embarrassing and fears it could lead to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds. That’s good enough for us to embrace Republicans running in House and Senate districts on Nov. 4 as a way to straighten this mess out. And, there’s some fine new-blood GOP candidates eager to serve in Springfield.

That being said, we endorse the following Republicans: Dan Duffy of Lake Barrington in the 26th Senate District to replace retiring Sen. William Peterson, R-Long Grove…”
